Pictured above is my dad Micheal Matson

A way that I have experienced entrepreneurship is through my dad. He is the hardest working person I have ever met and inspires me more with each passing day. His whole life he did manual labor and small jobs to get by. It was thought that ultimately, he would be a stay at home dad and my mom would make the money for our family. My mom went to college and received a degree so realistically she was the one expected to make a higher salary. He started off with nothing and built a career out of doing what he knew best: construction. Since custom pools opened, my mom has been a stay at home mom. He supports our family with his passion for custom service, charisma, and hard work. I hope one day to get the same satisfaction that my dad has when I am in the work force. His ability to manage his company brings me so much pride being his daughter.

I enrolled in ENT 3003 because it is a requirement for my minor. I really think I will enjoy this class and gain a better understanding of how to solve problems in day to day life.

  1. Hey Gabrielle,

Thats something to be very proud of. My parents both graduated with degrees, but they also went the way of hard work and meaningful labor to get their start. We owned a restaurant and it was very difficult at first, but my parents worked extremely hard and made a thriving business out of it. I can draw many comparisons between your father and mine, and I hope as well to work just as hard and be just as successful as my parents, too.

  2. Hi Gabrielle,
I really enjoyed reading this story. I think this story is a great example of entrepreneurship because is usually hard to step out of one's comfort zone and try to start a business. Your father was not only brave enough to step out of his comfort zone, but also had chosen an industry that he was familiar with.
